Constructed in 1902, the Stokesville Passenger Depot was the only two-story station apart from the Harrisonburg station constructed in 1930. As the pride and joy of the Chesapeake Western, newspapers applauded the building as the best train depot in the western half of the state. Today the depot is essentially all that remains of the orginial town of Stokesville. After the railroad abandoned the Stokesville line in 1930, the depot quickly fell into private ownership and was swiftly converted into a family dwelling, thus helping to ensure its protection over the years.
