The Stokesville Passenger Depot Virtual Tour

First Floor

The first floor of the depot contains six main rooms and one entrance way. The baggage room serves as little more than a storage shed today, but orginially functioned a compartment for passangers luggage. The waiting room/ticket room is now a large open area which is used as a living room space; however, a wall once divided the room creating a waiting room on the left and the ticket room on the right. The other waiting room today serves as a kitchen and once included the area that was used to construct the bathroom. The addition to the house, constructed in the 1970s, served as an office area for the owner when the depot was part of the Stokesville Campground and Recreation Park.

Click on the room labels of the building's current floor plans to see interior photographs while learning more about the alterations. Note the building is currently undergoing rennovations, so demolition seen in photographs is a result of this construction.

Second Floor

The second floor of the depot is comprised of four main rooms with a long hall and a stair well. Bedroom 1 once contained the area that now makes up the stair well until the construction of the building's internal staircase. Bedrooms 2 and 3 are orginial to the building; however, the wall dividing the two rooms is not an original wall. The wall separating the bathroom and Bedroom 3 does not appear to be original. Although sources indicate that the depot manager and his family lived upstairs, it is likely that the rooms had a slightly different configuration when originally constructed. The orginial floor plan did not include an interior staircase and instead featured an external staircase which connected to the southern elevation of the building.
